Rodung La Trek – takes ten days from Toktu Zampa, passing through Ugyenchholing, Phokpey, Pemi, Khaine Lhakhang, Tangmachu, Menji, Pemi and Taupang, and terminating at Trashiyangtse. On the fourth day, one crosses the Rodung La at 4, 160 meters. On the fifth day the trail passes through the settlements of the Gomdas, who speak the Kurtoep language, a language markedly distinct from the other languages spoken in the rest of the country. A Tibetan style Umling mani (prayer wheel) at 2, 180 meters, said to be built by a Tibetan lama, is reached on the sixth day of the trek. Dong La, at 3, 900 meters, which is reached on the ninth day of the trek provides beautiful vistas of the high mountain ranges in the vicinity. After reaching the Dzong, the trail passes through the Kholong chu. The famous Trashi Yangtse lies a mere three kilometers beyond.
