Samtegang Winter Trek – is the most ideal for beginners, lasting as it does a mere four days. Because of the low altitude one can undertake the trek throughout the months of winter. Starting from Punakha, it passes through Limukha, Chhungsakha and Samtengang. One the last day, upon reaching Chhudzomsa, one can travel to Wangdiphodrang by car.

There is yet another trek – the four day trek from Bumthang to Lhuntse which visitors have found extremely enjoyable. On this trek one gets beautiful views of the fascinating valley of Tang. Dense forests of rhododendron cover the entire route. Besides rhododendron, as one approaches Ungar, one passes through a ‘waterfall of trees,’ the trees in question being oak and magnolia. And the interesting bit is, at Ungar, there is this age old saying which roughly translates as ‘it doesn’t matter whether you are a king or a pauper…at Rudung La, you will have to climb it on foot…it is too steep to ride a horse here…’..which goes to say that even very powerful kings of the past HAD to traverse the area on foot…and those are the very areas that You will be trekking through…should you choose to do so.
